Cover Girl: Lavenda Monroe Is Bad In The Best Ways

Meet Lavenda Monroe - a creative and inspiring beauty. Her name originated with a lip ring. She picked the color because purple is her little sister's favorite, and the type of ring she got just happened to be called Monroe. Lavenda easily acknowledges the obvious with regards to her moniker.

"It speaks volumes," she tells me. "Every time you hear her name you know her presence, and her beauty. I love Monroe."

Lavenda began modelling at the age of ten, and got serious about it eight years later. As a dancer she often had to update photos, and her nontraditional, rule-breaking nature led Monroe to create her own lane. Her signature style is the confidence and determination she brings to a shoot; Lavenda hates being told what to do, or how to pose. She's in command of her body, and image, and it shows.

A Native New Yorker, Miss Monroe is a gorgeous blend of West African and Lebanese. But don't let the aesthetics blind you. Lavenda Monroe is more than a pretty face. This part-time model - who's worked with BK Wildlife's Chris Carr - grew up with aspirations of being an entertainment lawyer. After studying Criminal Justice at John Jay for some time, Lavenda transferred to Suny Westchester to pursue her true passion - The Performing Arts.

What does a bad bitch mean to you? What makes someone bad?

BAD BITCH SEEMS TO ALWAYS PERTAIN TO THE PHYSICAL, WHICH IS A VITAL ATTRIBUTE, BUT WHAT MAKES A BAD BITCH A LETHAL SIREN IS HER MENTAL. IF BOTH ARE INTACT AND ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH THIS BAD BITCH IS STRONG WILLED ,NOT EASILY PERSUADED, SHE IS THE WEAKNESS OF MEN AND THE ENVY OF WOMEN WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND HER OR COULDNT DARE TO BE HER.

Who are some bad bitches you look up to, and that inspire you? Or whose hustle you respect?YOU MIGHT LAUGH AT THIS ONE BECAUSE IM AN OLD SOUL, I MOSTLY SEE IMITATIONS ON MY TV SCREEN AND MAGAZINES SO I LIKE THE ORIGINALS LIKE JOSEPHINE BAKER AND BETTIE PAGE.

What do you think more women need to know about, and do with their careers?

IN TERM OF CAREER MOVES ID DEFINITELY SAYS SKY IS NOT THE LIMIT, SURPASS THAT AND FOCUS ON ONE GOAL AT A TIME BECAUSE JACK OF ALL TRADES IS MASTER OF NONE.

What do you think more women need to know about, and do in their relationships?

OH BOY, LOL..... I HAVE THIS VERY PROBLEM MYSELF.....TO MY LADIES I UNDERSTAND THAT WE HAVE FINALLY GAINED OUR SEMI INDEPENDENCE IN THE EYES OF MAN, BUT WE ARE STILL NOT MEN THEMSELVES. ALLOW A MAN TO STILL DO MANLY THINGS FOR YOU BUT KNOW WITHIN YOURSELF YOU CAN STILL DO THEM ON YOUR OWN. AS THE SAYING GOES, “EVERYONE IN YOUR LIFE WILL HURT YOU, BUT WHO IS WORTH SUFFERING FOR?”

What advice would you give someone who wanted to model? How/where should someone start? What should they watch out for?

STAY HUMBLED. BE ONE WITH YOURSELF. BE CLEAR ON YOUR GOALS AND PROPER INTENT. DONT JUST WORK HARDER, WORK SMARTER.  LOOK UP SOME AGENCIES GEARING TOWARDS THE TYPE OF MODELING YOU WOULD LIKE TO PURSUE, AND WATCH OUT FOR THE PHONIES, EVERY GUY BEHIND A CAMERA IS NOT A PHOTOGRAPHER, AND EVERY MODEL IS NOT YOUR FRIEND .

What difference does having representation have?
IT HAS A BIT OF A DIFFERENCE BECAUSE I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE MARKETING SIDE WHICH IS ABOUT HALF THE BATTLE ME AND MY MANAGER CONVERSE LIKE PARTNERS NOT A DICTATORSHIP, I BRING HIM THE IDEAS AND VICE VERSA WE DISCUSS THEM AND LOOK AT PROS AND CONS OF EACH PROJECT.

Were you shy at first or have you always had confidence before a camera?

SHY NOT QUIET, MORE AFRAID TO BE BOLD IN FRONT OF THOSE WHO DIDNT KNOW ME OR MY PERSONALITY, BUT MY PICTURES SEEMED TO CAPTURE MY INNER THOUGHTS AND MOMENTS ANYWAY.

I'M THE HOST OF A SHOW TITLED "THE RENAISSANCE REBORN" AND EVERY TIME THESE POETS AND ARTISTS PERFORM I'M INSPIRED ON THE MOST VAST LEVEL. THE MOST TALENTED PEOPLE I'VE COME ACROSS IN A VERY LONG TIME.
